Battlestar Galactica is one of several science fiction franchises that has been able to maintain popularity for decades since it was first released. The original television show by this name was broadcast in the late 1970's and though it did not last for many seasons, it did become quite a hit amongst devoted fans. Science fiction is an interesting genre because some people are uninterested by the idea of delving into thoughts of what a futuristic universe would be like and what alien races humans may be interacting with. For fans of this genre, however, there are few things as exciting as a great television program, video game, movie, or book that takes the mind boggling ideas of science fiction and makes them feel real through believable characters and great plot lines.

Humans have been attacked and sent far from their home planet in Battlestar Galactica by the Cylon who are actually robot-like people who were made by humans in the past. There are wonderful connections to deep human emotion in the story line which keep fans attached to the characters. The real stars of BG are not the spaceships used to fight battles or the planets that are visited along the way, but instead the people who are facing very normal struggles in their efforts to survive and to find a new home.

There are lots of spaceships that appear throughout Battlestar Galactica, including large transport vessels that are home to thousands of people and small fighter jets. One of the elements of science fiction that has fans intrigued is what kinds of ships are used and how space travel is imagined. Even though today's technology has just started to barely scratch the surface of what spaceflight might eventually become, science fiction artists are able to create elaborate concepts of how space travel could work one day.

One manner in which the people who make science fiction shows and movies have been able to reach out to their audience in a new way is by making video games that further extend the characters and events that they have created. It is thrilling to get to interact with the characters and fight the antagonists in this way.

Battlestar Galactica has received a well-deserved place in the history of science fiction franchises and continues to gain fans. The story is kept alive through video games that utilize the same characters to allow players the chance to take part in BG's events and battles.
