When you think of increasing your home safety and security, you might first think of what happens if a thief actually makes it into your house. But did you know that the outside of your home is actually one of the most important places to deter a criminal?

When a thief makes his way onto your property, the sooner you can learn of his presence the better. Outdoor perimeter protection is what makes this possible. You can add many different methods of protection outside, and the more methods you can implement, the more secure you will be in your home.

One of the first things to put into place for home safety and security is video cameras. Purchase outdoor cameras so that they can withstand the variances of weather. Put several up and position them so that you have good views of your driveway, your sidewalks and all entry doors to your home.

You may not like the idea of video cameras running all the time. This does cause wear and tear on the cameras, as well as using extra electricity. You can avoid this problem by purchasing motion active cameras for your home safety. This type of camera can be programmed to only begin recording when movement is detected.

Another way to discourage criminals from coming onto your property is by installing a security fence. Fences are very effective because the criminal must find a way to get over the fence twice-on the way out and on the way in. The sheer difficulty of this may discourage him from attempting to rob you.

It is also a good idea to put up security lighting around the perimeter of your property for better home safety. The more light you can flood the area with, the less inviting your home will be to a thief. These lights can also be motion -activated, only coming on when there is a activity detected.
